Our background in the Timber trade continues to ensure our special emphasis on the everyday needs of the ’Chippy’. But, in recent years, the expansion of our product range to include most other building materials means that, as Builders Merchants, we can supply an excellent product mix to bricklayers, landscapers and other specialist building trades too.

Above all else the Buttle name is synonymous with QUALITY and VALUE — the best combination available — from an independent supplier with a determination to do what we say - or BETTER.

Buttle's history in building stretches back to when George James Buttle left his Essex farming life to start afresh as a sawyer in St Pancras around 125 years ago. Craftsmanship and service were very much the key to the success of the business that his son, George Harold Buttle, started in 1919, the difficult time just after the end of the Great War. But such were the standards set by Buttle's that the business has continued to grow despite the Depression, the Second World War, trading pattern upheavals and ‘boom or bust’ economies.

Every member of Buttle's  staff has an important part to play in providing the CUSTOMER SATISFACTION that we hold paramount. All staff are trained to act with honesty, integrity and responsibility at all times. After so many years in the trade we are jealous guardians of our reputation but still not too old to learn. We always actively encourage feedback from customers. Comments, Suggestions or Complaints (we don’t get many of the latter!) are welcomed. We in Buttle's  are always ready to look at ourselves critically and to change when needed, especially if a change means a better service to our customers.
